Hundreds of Buddha statues previously(以前) little known to the outside world have become an overnight hit on the Internet after they were discovered(发现) by a group of tourists who sought adventure(探险) in Foshan, south China's Guangdong province. The statues were carved(雕刻) on steep(陡峭的) cliffs(悬崖) 20 years ago as a project funded by local government, but were abandoned(放弃) before its completion.
Enveloped by surrounding trees, they had remained(保持) in obscurity(默默无闻) for two decades until now.
