Chris:  Dajia hao, welcome to Chinese Studio on China Radio International.  Wo shi Chris.
Yajie: and wo shi Yajie. This week we talked about sports which you like a lot.
Chris: Yes. And I learned a lot from it, and I need to get a review of it.
Yajie: Ok. Now let’s get started.

Sentences in the Week
What sport do you like to play? 你喜欢什么运动?(Ni3 xi3huan shen2me yun4dong4?) Which sports match do you like to watch? 你喜欢看什么体育比赛?(Ni3 xi3huan kan4 shen2me ti3yu4 bi3sai4?) Where can I find a basketball court? 哪儿有篮球场?(Nar3 you3 lan2qiu2 chang3?) All in today’s Chinese Studio.

Yajie: first, quiz time, shall we Chris?
Chris: Ok. I can’t wait to have it! 
Yajie: How do you say basketball in Chinese?
Chris: It’s篮球(Lan2qiu2), all in the second tone.
Yajie: And soccer?
Chris: 足球 (zu2qiu2)
Yajie: Good. How about ice hockey?
Chris: 冰球(bing1 qiu2)but the more official name is冰上曲棍球(bing1 shang4 qu1gun4qiu2), right?
Yajie: That’s very good, Chris. Now here are some sentences. What’s the Chinese for “What sport do you like to play?”
Chris: 你喜欢什么运动?(Ni3 xi3huan shen2me yun4dong4?)
Yajie: Right. 喜欢 (xi3huan), like.
Chris: 喜欢 (xi3huan)
Yajie: 什么 (shen2me), what.
Chris: 什么 (shen2me)
Yajie: 运动(yun4dong4), sport.
Chris: 运动(yun4dong4)
Yajie: 你喜欢什么运动?(Ni3 xi3huan shen2me yun4dong4?)
Chris: 你喜欢什么运动?(Ni3 xi3huan shen2me yun4dong4?) What sport do you like to play?
Yajie: and Chris, 我喜欢打篮球。(wo3 xi3huan da3 lan2qiu2)
Chris: 我喜欢打篮球。(wo3 xi3huan da3 lan2qiu2), which means I like playing basketball.
Yajie: Nice job.

Conversation1:

Yajie: and also we learned 你喜欢看什么体育比赛?(Ni3 xi3huan kan4 shen2me ti3yu4 bi3sai4?)
Chris: 你喜欢看什么体育比赛?(Ni3 xi3huan kan4 shen2me ti3yu4 bi3sai4?) which means “Which sports match do you like to watch?”
Yajie: 体育 (ti3yu4), sports.
Chris: 体育 (ti3yu4)
Yajie: 比赛 (bi3sai4), match.
Chris: 比赛 (bi3sai4)

Yajie: oh I’d love to. But do you remember how to ask that in Chinese?
Chris: yes. It’s 哪儿有篮球场?(Nar3 you3 lan2qiu2 chang3?)
Yajie: Where, 哪儿 (nar3)
Chris: 哪儿 (nar3)
Yajie: 有 (you3), to have. Y-o-u, the third tone.
Chris: 有 (you3)
Yajie: 篮球场(lan2qiu2 chang3), basketball court
Chris: 篮球场(lan2qiu2 chang3)
