Last Friday, a woman in Chengdu, Sichuan province, spent 20,000 yuan ($3,283) on 100 pairs of shoes at a local shopping mall, as a way to take out her anger on her boyfriend, who banned her from online shopping on Singles Day.

A netizen said on her personal Weibo account that she came across a woman buying 100 pairs of shoes at a local shopping mall on Friday. The post read, in part: "She ordered staffers at the mall to tape some of the shoes outside her car, since the Smart car is too small to hold so many shoes."

The netizen also attached a video clip of the "footwear fan".

An official at the shopping mall confirmed what the netizen said was true. "We did receive a client who bought 100 pairs of shoes at the mall last Friday," the official said.

"She bought nearly all styles of shoes, including sandals, boots, booties, flats, pumps, and even men's shoes."

"We think she did it to take out anger on her boyfriend, who banned her from shopping online on Nov 11, Singles Day, since one of our employees heard her while she was talking with her friend on the phone," he added.

The "fan of shoes" was even contacted by the local media.

"My boyfriend didn't allow me to buy anything online during Singles Day, so I broke up with him. I missed the golden chance for shopping," said the 26-year-old Wang Yuan.

Singles Day is a festival for young Chinese to celebrate their single life. The date is composed of four number 1s, and the Chinese word for bachelor, "guang gun," means bare stick.

Singles Day is not a traditional Chinese festival, so it is mainly celebrated by young people. Online shopping is wildly popular with the younger generation, and Singles Day has become a big shopping day in the country.
