There are many things we use every day – detergent, soap, dishes, cutlery. These mundane objects are daily necessities: rì yòng pǐn in Mandarin Chinese.
Rì yòng pǐn has three characters: 日用品. The first one, rì, means “day.” The second character, yòng, means “to use.” The third one, pǐn, means “thing” or “product.”
The literal translation of rì yòng pǐn is “day use thing.”
