The Mandarin Chinese phrase for “attend class” is ►shàng kè. This is made up of two Chinese characters: 上課.
The first character, 上 (shàng) means “on,” “on top,” or “to go into.” It is used in the sense of “attend” with that other great obligation of life: work. 上班 (shàng bān) means “go to work.”
The second character of shàng kè simply means “class,” “subject,” or “lesson.”
