SHANDONG Airlines yesterday suspended two flight attendants after a passenger complained on the Internet that they were playing with their mobile phones on a flight after the aircraft took off.
The head flight attendant and a first class attendant have admitted their wrongdoing, but they violated the civil aviation safety code and the regulations of the airline, so they have been suspended pending further investigation, the airline said in a statement.
Li Jie, the head flight attendant, and her colleague Yang Nan began opening their mobile phones to play games after the takeoff of Flight SC4912 from Urumqi in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to Yinchuan in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region on Sunday, a passenger said on her microblog on Sina.com after the flight landed.
"They had been playing for about half an hour while Yang tried to use a piece of newspaper to cover Li," the passenger said.
"I asked Yang whether mobile phones are permitted to be open during the flight. She answered, 'No.' I asked then why she did that, and Yang looked shocked," the passenger said.
