3 expelled students in Wenzhou labeled as 'terrorists' by their school

A high school in Wenzhou in eastern China's Zhejiang province has posted photos of three expelled students with a note labeling them as "terrorists," reports the local Chinese-language Wenzhou Metropolis Daily.

 

"We did not do anything wrong. Why are we terrorists?" asked one of the students, surnamed Liu. "I dropped out. I just came by to see some of my classmates the other day. Then the class leader reported me to the school. I didn't realize until the day that our photos were posted in the security room and there was this note that said that we were terrorists," he said.

 

Liu told the Wenzhou Metropolis Daily that the school dismissed him two weeks ago over a fight with other students.

 

Liu uploaded a picture of the students' photos and the note to Weibo, China's equivalent of Twitter, which promptly went viral. Many internet users criticized the school and called their act inappropriate, urging the school to apologize to the students for slandering their reputation and for using their images without permission.

 

Security guards at the school said the photos were posted so they could recognize the expelled students and stop them returning. The school said they did not ask the guards to post the photos but only gave them their photos for recognition purposes.

 

A senior staff member at the school said the post was actually the work of an individual security guard, surnamed Li. Li is the one alleged to have written the "terrorists" tag. The staff member said the school would discipline Li and ask him to apologize to the three students.
