Xin Qiji (1140-1207), had the courtesy name of Tanfu that was later changed to You'an, along with the pseudonym Jiaxuan, and was from Licheng (now Jinan of Shandong province). He was a poet of the Southern Song Dynasty. At the time when he was born, the Zhongyuan Area (central plains, comprising the middle and lower reaches of the Huanghe River) was occupied by the Jin (Jurchen). So he advocated for anti-Jin battles throughout his life. He wrote the Meiqin Shilun (Ten Humble Arguments) and Jiu Yi (Nine Arguments), stating strategies for defense and offense, which demonstrated his outstanding military ability and patriotic feelings. His works were full of the enthusiasm for reunifying the country, the anger for all the difficulty in fulfilling great aspirations, and criticizing the imperial officials for their humbleness. There were also works praising the rivers and mountains of the country. Subject matters were extensive in his works, which frequently cited the anecdotes of the ancestors, with their style being steady and powerful but at the same time delicate and gentle. His collected works include Jiaxuan changduanju (Lyrics of Jiaxuan) and the Xin Jiaxuan Shiwen Chaocun(Treasure Writings of Xin Jiaxuan) compiled by contemporary editors.
