Cam:  We talked all ab0ut winter last time, which is my least favorite season.  I am much more of a summer person, and will take heat over cold any day of the week. Welcome to the show, wo shi Cam.

YJ: Same here. Wo shi Yajie. After the dreary and freezing show, let's talk ab0ut sunshine today.
Cam: Sounds good!

Cam:  Yajie, in the summer, I know I will need to ask somebody to turn on the air conditioning.  Don't do it now though!  This is just for practice.  How do I say that?

Yajie: you can say kai1 kong1 tiao2 开空调.

Cam:  kai1 kong1 tiao2

YJ: kai1 means to turn on,

Cam: kai1.

YJ: air conditioning is kong1 tiao2,

Cam: kong1 tiao2

YJ: kai1 kong1 tiao2

YJ: All I want for the new year is real good tan… so let’s have a review of summer words. 

Cam: Great idea. Let’s start with the sun.

YJ:  Okay, sun is 太阳。

Cam:  tai4 yang.

YJ:   Sunshine is 阳光. I love it!

Cam:  yang2 guang1. me too. Wo3 ai4 yang2 guang1. I love sunshine!

YJ: But too much sunshine may get you sunburned.

Cam:  That’s true. What’s the Chinese for that?

YJ: it’s 晒伤。Shai4 shang1.

Cam: Shai4 shang1. Then how ab0ut some other summer clothing words?

YJ: why not. Summer is a season for skirts and shorts... skirt in Chinese is qun2 zi. 裙子

Cam:  qun2 zi. How ab0ut shorts?

YJ: it’s duan3 qu4.  短裤。

Cam: duan3 qu4. 

YJ: and sandals in Chinese is 凉鞋。

Cam: liang2 xie2.

A: 阳光太强烈了，把我都给晒伤了。

B: 那得赶快抹点药。

A: 我喜欢夏天。

B: 我也喜欢。因为我可以穿裙子。

Cam: Now, while I love summer, sometimes it DOES get too hot... how do I say that?

YJ: you can say “tai4 re4 le” 太热了。

Cam: tai4 re4 le

YJ: tai4 means very much,

Cam: tai4.

YJ: re4 means hot,

Cam: re4.

YJ:  tai4 re4 le

Cam: tai4 re4 le it’s too hot!

YJ: if it’s too hot, I would like some ice cream.

Cam: good. What’s the Chinese for that?

YJ: it’s 冰激凌

Cam: bing1 ji1 lin2.

YJ: what’s your favorite flavor?

Cam: it’s chocolate.

YJ: qiao3 ke1 li4, chocolate, 巧克力，

Cam: qiao3 ke1 li4 what’s your favorite flavor, Yajie?

YJ: it’s xiang1 cao3. 香草, vanilla.

Cam: xiang1 cao3

YJ: xiang1 means fragrant,

Cam: xiang1.

YJ: cao3 means grass,
