Usage:

 

“海选”在众多的候选人中选拔。指不设门槛，人人都有机会参加的选拔。正因为如此，参加的人数相当多，因此参加者想要被选中就非常难。

“海 选” refers to an audition or other selection process without entry requirements, meaning that everyone has an opportunity to participate. For this reason, the number of participants is quite large, and it is hard for the participants to be selected.
