A recently-proposed film is in the works that will feature Shaolin kung fu, but this time, the martial art will be showcased in the world of animation.
少林功夫将再次被搬上银屏,但这次的功夫将是在动漫世界里得到展示。

Renowned Taiwan-born director(导演), cartoonist(漫画家) and script-writer(编剧), Tsai Chih Chung, said the cartoon "Shaolin Temple"(少林寺) is expected to(预计) be finished within 15 to 18 months, during a press conference(发布会) held on May 4, 2014, at the Shaolin Temple in central China's Henan province(省).

Tsai Chih Chung began drafting a script(创作脚本) for the film in 2006. Best known for his graphical works on Chinese philosophy(哲学) and history(历史), Tsai also said he will make a cartoon that focuses on Buddhist philosophy(佛陀思想). Animation in the 85-minute cartoon will be based on traditional Chinese ink and wash paintings(中国水墨画) to give the production an authentic feel(真实感).

In support of the film, Shaolin abbot(方丈) Shi Yongxin spoke at the press conference, as well.

水墨画 shuǐ mò huà
Ink and wash painting
Intro: Chinese painting is one of the oldest continuous artistic traditions in the world. The two main techniques in Chinese painting are Gong-bi(工笔) and Ink and wash painting. Gong-bi, meaning "meticulous", uses highly detailed brushstrokes that delimits details very precisely. It is often highly coloured and usually depicts figural or narrative subjects. It is often practiced by artists working for the royal court or in independent workshops. Ink and wash painting also loosely termed watercolour or brush painting, and also known as "literati painting". It was an art practiced by gentlemen, a distinction that begins to be made in writings on art from the Song dynasty, though in fact the careers of leading exponents could benefit considerably. This style is also referred to as "xie yi" (写意) or freehand style.
