Yajie: Dajia hao. Welcome to Chinese Studio!
Cam: Hello, everybody! Wo shi Cam. During this week we mainly focused on the topic of making invitations and requests. So this is our chance to practice what we’ve learned.
Yajie: Right.  Let’s listen to sentences in the week.

******Sentences in the week
请进!Come in please. 请坐,请喝茶!Please take a seat and have some tea. 对不起,我不进去了。Sorry, I won’t go inside. 可以, could;  电话, telephone. 可以用一下电话吗?May I use the phone? 便宜, cheap. 能不能便宜点儿?Could it be a little bit cheaper? All in today’s Chinese studio.

Yajie: 请进!Come in please.
Cam: 请进!(qing jin) Ok. That’s what I often hear the waiters say when entering a restaurant or a hotel.
Yajie: Yes. 请 means please, the third tone. And 进 means “come in”, the fourth tone. it's请进!(qing jin)
Cam: 请进!(qing jin), please come in. So what should the response be?
Yajie: Well you may say “谢谢”, thanks.
Cam: Ok. 谢谢(xiexie), thanks.
Yajie: Then you should say请坐,请喝茶!Please take a seat and have some tea.
Cam: 请坐,请喝茶!(qing zuo, qing he cha)
Yajie: 坐 means to sit down
Cam: 坐(zuo), the fourth tone.
Yajie: 喝, to drink, h-e, the first tone. And 茶 means tea. C-h-a, the second tone. Together it’s 喝茶(he cha).
Cam: 喝茶(he cha), to have some tea.

Conversations(1):

Yajie: There is a more informal way for inviting a friend to dro by.  “进来坐一会儿吧(jinlai zuo yi huir ba), which has similar meaning with “Come in and have a seat.”
Cam: 进来坐一会儿吧(jinlai zuo yi huir ba).
Yajie: 进来 means come in.
Cam: 进来(jinlai).
Yajie: 坐, zuo, the fourth tone, to sit down.
Cam: 坐, zuo.
Yajie: 一会儿, a moment.
Cam: 一会儿(yi huir).
Yajie: 进来坐一会儿吧。
Cam: 进来坐一会吧(jinlai zuo yi huir ba) , come in and have a seat.
Yajie: If you like, you could come in. But if you really have something urgent and important to do, and won’t come in,  then you could say  “对不起,我不进去了”, sorry, I won’t go inside. 
Cam: 对不起,我不进去了. (duibuqi, wo bu jinqu le.)

Conversations(2):

Yajie: Also during the week, we learned the way of making requests. For example, 可以用一下电话吗?(keyi yong yi xia dianhua ma?) Could I use the phone?
Cam: 可以用一下电话吗?(keyi yong yixia dianhua ma?)
Yajie: 可以 means could.
Cam: 可以(keyi).
Yajie: 用 means to use. Yong, the fourth tone.
Cam: 用(yong).
Yajie: 电话 (dianhua), telephone.
Cam: 电话 (dianhua).
Yajie: 可以用一下电话吗?(keyi yong yi xia dianhua ma?) May I use the phone?
Cam: 可以用一下电话吗?(keyi yong yixia dianhua ma?)
Yajie: The answer is expected to be “Go ahead”. 用吧.
Cam: 用吧.(yong ba)
