Most Congested Cities

Beijing has lived up to its reputation of congestion again, as it ranks No. 15 on a list of the world’s most congested cities in 2014.
北京道路拥堵问题真是名不虚传：在2014年全球最拥堵城市的排名中，北京名列第15名。



According to(根据...) a newly released report from GPS maker TomTom, in which the annual Traffic(交通) Index ranks over 200 cities worldwide, Beijing has a 37 percent congestion(拥堵) level. That means an average driver would spend 37 percent more time on the road in Beijing to cover the same distance as he would in non-congested cities.

The data also shows Beijing is one of those rare cities wher traffic is worse on highways(高速路) than elsewher. only 11 out of 218 cities on the list have that problem.

The report says the top three(前三名) congested cities in the world are Istanbul(Turkey), Mexico City(Mexico) and Rio de Janeiro(Brazil). Altogether, 10 cities on the Chinese mainland are among the top 30. Apart from(除了...) Beijing, other notable examples include Chongqing (12th), Tianjin (14th), Guangzhou (17th) and Shanghai (24th).
