Let's learn some Chinese Colloquial Phrases. Today, we're going to learn Chinese Colloquial Phrases--"想开点儿".

想开点儿(Xiǎngkāi diǎnr.)

Let it go./Get over it.

用法说明
这句话常用来安慰别人。当他人遇到了不好的事情时,比如说:丢了钱包,遭遇失败,就可以用这句话劝慰对方,意思是既然不好的事儿已经发生了,就不要再放在心上了。相反的意思是“想不开”,意思是把不好的事儿都放在心上,不能让自己从不好的情绪中摆脱出来。

People usually use this expression to comfort others. When someone has bad luck, e.g. losing his/her wallet or encountering failure, him/her would be comforted with this sentence by others, which means that there is no need or unnecessary to think about the bad thing any longer since it has already happened. The opposite of the expression, "想不开(xiǎng bù kāi)", means to take something too seriously, and be unable to get rid of the bad mood.
