宁月 Silent Moon – A beautiful song played by 贾鹏芳 with traditional Chinese musical instrument

If I ask you what is the symbol of traditional Chinese musical instrument, would you be able to tell me the right answer? Probably not. :-) However, if you ask the same question to most native Chinese, you’ll most likely get the same answer - 二胡 èr hú.

Looking into the picture to the right will explain what 二胡 èr hú is. It plays the sound from its strings, just like violin. The instrument was first introduced into China from the northern area outside of China (foreign country) during Tang dynasty. Foreigners were called 胡人 hú rén at that time, that’s why it’s called 二胡 èr hú. However, hundreds years later, it has been improved from its original form and adapted to Chinese music until its performance has been elevated to a very high level.
