Yǒu yí gè Chǔguó rén yào zuò chuán guò yì tiáo jiāng, tā de jiàn cóng chuán shàng diào jìn le shuǐ lǐ. Tā jímáng yòng dāo zài chuánxián shàng kè le yí gè jìhào, shuō:” zhè’ér shì wǒ de jiàn diào xià qù de dìfāng.” Chuán tíng xià yǐ hòu, zhè gè rén cóng tā suǒ kèjì hào de dìfāng xià shuǐ qù zhǎojiàn. Biérén kàn dào le, duì tā shuō:” chuán yǐ jīng xiàng qián xíngshǐ le hěn yuǎn, ér jiàn què bú huì hé chuán yìqǐ qiánjìn, xiàng zhèyàng qù zhǎo jiàn, bú shì hěn hútú ma?”
有一个楚国人要坐船过一条江,他的剑从船上掉进了水里。他急忙用刀在船舷上刻了一个记号,说:“这儿是我的剑掉下去的地方。”船停下以后,这个人从他所刻记号的地方下水去找剑。别人看到了,对他说:“船已经向前行驶了很远,而剑却不会和船一起前进,像这样去找剑,不是很糊涂吗?”
once upon a time, a man from the state of Chu was going to cross a river. In the boat, his sword fell into the water. He then immediately took out his knife and made a mark on the side of the boat wher his sword fell off. When the boat arrived, he jumped into the water from the place indicated by his mark to find the sword. People said to him: "The boat is moving but your sword would not go with the boat. Isn't it foolish to look for your sword this way?"

Meanings:

这个成语比喻事物或者环境已发展变化,但是还不懂得变通,仍静止地看问题。是一个贬义词。
This idiom is used as a metaphor to refer to those who consider things from a static viewpoint without taking into account the ever changing situation. It is a derogatory expression.
