疾(jí)
Origin:
一支利箭向一个人的的胸部射去,当然伤了人。“疾”的本义是“伤”、“病”,引申为“厌恶”、“憎恨”,又因为箭的速度很快,因此又有“迅速”的意思。
A sharp arrow shot at a person’s chest will of course, cause harm. The original meaning of “疾” is to be hurt or sick, which extended to disgust and hatred. As arrows fly at high speeds, “疾” also means fast.
