Dialogues

（1）在礼品店 AT a Gift Store

丽贝卡：请问，去中国人家里做客，一般送什么礼物？
                Qĭng wèn, qù zhōng guó rén jiā lĭ zuò kè, yì bān sòng shén me lĭ wù?
                Excuse me. What's a suitable gift if I'm invited to visit a Chinese family?

售货员：那要看对方是谁了。
                Nà yào kàn duì fāng shì shuí le.
                It all depends on who the host is.

丽贝卡：是我的朋友。
                Shì wŏ de péng you.
                It's my friend.

售货员：他跟父母住在一起吗？
                Tā gēn fù mŭ zhù zài yì qĭ ma?
                Does he live with his parents?

丽贝卡：对，跟父母住在一起。
                Duì, gēn fù mŭ zhù zài yì qĭ.
                Yes, he does.

售货员：那送果篮儿吧，里面装上苹果啦、香蕉啦、草莓啦，对老人、孩子都很合适。
                Nà sòng guŏ lán ér ba, lĭ miàn zhuāng shàng píng guŏ lā, xiāng jiāo lā, căo méi lā, duì lăo rén, hái zi dōu hĕn hé shì.
                Then, it'd be great to take a fruit basket with apples，banners and strawberries. It's proper for both seniors and children.

丽贝卡：好主意！你们这儿有果篮儿吗？
                Hăo zhŭ yi! Nĭ men zhè ér yŏu guŏ lán ér ma?
                Good idea! Do you have fruit baskets?

售货员：没有，您得去超市或者水果店买。
                Méi yŏu, nín dĕi qù chāo shì huò zhĕ shuí guŏ diàn măi.
                I'm sorry we don't. You'll have to go to a supermarket or a fruit store for that.

丽贝卡：谢谢。
                Xiè xiè.
                Thanks.

售货员：不客气。
                Bú kè qi.
                No problem.

（2）在王波家 At Wang Bo's Home (Rebecca arrives at Wang Bo's home with some gifts.)

王 波：人来了就行了，还带什么东西呀？你太见外了！
             Rén lái le jiù xíng le, hái dài shén me dōng xi ya? Nĭ tài jiàn wài le!
             I'm really grateful that you came. But, you shouldn't have gone to any trouble.

丽贝卡：这是我的一点儿心意。
                Zhè shì wŏ de yì diăn ér xīn yì.
                I just wanted to show my appreciation for your hospitality.

王 波：请进。（大喊）爸！妈！丽贝卡来了。
             Qĭng jìn. (dà hăn ) Bà! Mā! Lì bèi kă lái le.
             Come in.（calling）Hi Dad, Mom! Rebecca's here.

王 父：欢迎，欢迎！
             Huān yíng, huān yíng!
             Welcome，Welcome！

王 母：快请进！
             Kuài qĭng jìn!
             Please come in.

丽贝卡：叔叔阿姨好！
                Shū shu ā yí hăo!
                Hello Mr. and Mrs. Wang!

王 母：快请坐，我们家王波常常说起你呢。
             Kuài qĭng zuò, wŏ men jiā wáng bō cháng cháng shuō qĭ nĭ ne.
             Take a seat, please. We often hear Wang Bo taking about you.

丽贝卡：是吗？说我什么了？
                Shì ma, shuō wŏ shén me le?
                Really? What does he say about me?

王 母：说你有学问，汉语说得好，果然不错。
             Shuō nĭ yŏu xué wen, hàn yŭ shuō dé hăo, guŏ rán bú cuò.
             He says you are a very learned person and can speak Chinese well. Now I know he's right.

丽贝卡：阿姨，您过奖了。
               ā yí, nín guò jiăng le.
               Thank you. I wish I were that good.

王 父：来，喝茶，信阳毛尖，今年的新茶。还有瓜子、糖。
             Lái, hē chá, xìn yáng máo jiān, jīn nián de xīn chá. Hái yŏu guā zĭ, táng.
             Have some tea, please. It's Xinyang maojian, this year's new tea. Also, take some sunflower seeds and candy.

丽贝卡：谢谢叔叔。
                Xiè xiè shū shu.
               Thanks, Mr. Wang.

王 母：你们先聊，我去厨房看看。
              Nĭ men xiān liáo, wŏ qù chú fáng kàn kan.
              Excuse me for a moment. I need to check the food in the kitchen.

王 波：本来我想让你尝尝我的手艺，可我妈非亲自下厨不可。
             Bĕn lái wŏ xiăng ràng nĭ cháng cháng wŏ de shŏu yì, kĕ wŏ mā fēi qīn zì xià chú bù kĕ.
             I planned to cook for you today but my mother insists on doing the cooking herself.

王 父：小波的手艺不错，都是跟他妈妈学的。
              Xiăo bō de shŏu yì bú cuò, dōu shì gēn tā mā ma xué de.
              Xiao Bo is a good cook and he learned it from his mom.

王 波：我爸做菜也有两下子。在我们家，轮不上我。
             Wŏ bà zuò cài yĕ yŏu liăng xià zi. Zài wŏ men jiā, lún bú shàng wŏ.
             My dad cooks really well, too. They rarely give an opportunity to try.
