天坛是中国现在最大的一处坛庙建筑，原来是明、清两代皇帝祭天、祈祷丰收的地方。天坛在中国古代史一个非常神圣的地方，是皇帝和上天沟通交流的地方。现在天坛是全国重点文物保护单位，成为北京的象征之一。

The Temple of Heaven was a sacred place in Chinese history, wher the emperors could communicate with the heavens above. Today, the Temple of Heaven is under state key protection, and is the symbol of the city of Beijing.
