【注音】kào biān zhàn
【解释】不受重用了或被撤职了。政治人物靠边站,也叫“下台”;在爱情上靠边站,叫“被甩了”或“被蹬了”。
It means that someone is forced to step down or be dismissed from one’s post. For political figures this is also called “get down from stage”(xia tai), for love affairs, this is called “be kicked or brushed off”(bei shuai le/bei deng le)

【例子】
例:尽管刘老头早已不是厂长,靠边站了,可厂里的大事小事他还是喜欢管一管的。
Ex.:Though Lao Liu is not the factory director any more, he still likes to take care of all sorts of things, significant or trivial, in the factory.
