干瞪眼
【注音】gān dèng yǎn
【解释】瞪大眼睛看着某件你不愿意看见的事情发生,无能为力。
Something you don’t want to see it happen happened, and all you can do is just standing by helplessly and looking on in despair with your eyes wide open.
【例子】
例:看着儿子没出息,尽惹麻烦,爸爸妈妈干瞪眼,没有办法。
Ex.:Their son is such a trouble-maker with no prospect. As parents, they can do nothing but grieve.
高姿态
Adopt a magnanimous attitude
【注音】gāo zī tài
【解释】俗话说“大人不计小人过”,地位高的人容易原谅地位低的人。所以“高姿态”就是原谅、宽容别人。
There’s a saying that “a gentleman doesn’t bear grudges against a small man.” People in a high posture is likely to forgive those in a lower position. Here , Gao Zi Tai means a magnanimous attitude.
【例子】
例:很多矛盾其实没有什么,如果大家都能高姿态,矛盾很容易就解决了。
Ex.:As a matter of fact, most of conflicts are no big deal at all. If everyone can adopt a magnanimous attitude, it could be easily resolved.
