Transparent OLED TV unveiled by Xiaomi

 The world's first mass-produced transparent(透明 tòumíng) TV(电视 diànshì) has been announced as part of Chinese electronics company Xiaomi's 10th anniversary celebration.

 

The 55-inch Mi TV LUX OLED Transparent Edition will cost around US$7,200 when it goes on sale on August 16 and can display solitary objects floating(悬浮 xuánfú) in space.

 

“The pictures it displays seem to be floating in the air, merging the virtual and the real to bring an unprecedented visual(视觉 shìjué) experience(体验 tǐyàn),” Xiaomi said.

 

However, science and technology website Gizmodo believes that transparent TVs are pretty useless for anything with dark colors, which is a drawback that Xiaomi acknowledges.

 

In its announcement, they say that it is "not a TV but an art piece" and is suitable "not only for homes, but also for galleries, museums, shopping malls, and theatres."
