Cangzhou is located in the southeast of Hebei Province. Historically, it was a must-have stronghold for military strategy. The local people usually had to learn striking and defending skills in order to survive; hence the practice of kungfu was prevailing in Cangzhou. According to statistics, Cangzhou had given birth to 1937 military officers during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and it became an important town of martial arts in north China during the reign of Emperor Qianlong. In 1992, Cangzhou was officially listed among the first batch of "hometown of martial arts".

Cangzhou Kungfu enjoys a time-honored history. It was initiated in the Spring and Autumn Period, popularized in the Ming Dynasty, prospered in the Qing Dynasty, and prevailed during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. The Cangzhou kungfu is varied in schools, including 53 kinds of boxing schools, which account for 40.3% of a total of 129 ones across China. Over the past hundreds of years, Cangzhou has given birth to a large amount of kungfu masters, such as Ding Faxiang, Huo Yuanjia, Wang Ziping etc, who made great contributions in fighting against foreign invasion and defending national dignity.

The practice of Cangzhou kungfu is beneficial in improving one's health, cultivating one's personality, promoting the overall development of a person, and enriching and perfecting the martial arts culture of China and the world as a whole.
