   G8 Summit

G8 Summit 2008 was held on July 7-9, 2008 in Hokkaido Toyako. The Group of Eight (G8) Summit is an annual meeting attended by the leaders of the eight countries, namely, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America, as well as the President of the European Commission. “Summit meeting” in its strict sense means a leaders meeting, but it usually refers to a series of meetings which include those of foreign ministers and finance ministers that are held prior to the leaders’ meeting.

BRIC — An acronym for the economies of Brazil, Russia, India and China combined. Leaders of the so-called “Bric” countries pledged here on Wednesday at G8 Summit 2008 to enhance coordination and strive to play a positive role in international affairs. Nicolas Sarkozy, the French president, has reassured Chinese President Hu Jintao that he would attend the ceremony  on the sidelines of the G8 summit of industrialized powers in Japan.
