  晒 [shài]:

 

1. dry in the sun;bask; bathe

 

bǎ dōng xi fàng zài tài yáng guāng xià shǐ tā gān zào ；

把东西放在太阳光下使它干燥；

rén huò wù zài yáng guāng xià xī shōu guāng hé rè

人或物在阳光下吸收光和热

 

e.g.

 

shài bèi zi

晒被子

air a quilt;

 

 

shài liáng shi

晒粮食

dry grain in the sun;

 

 

tài yáng shài rè le tǔ dì 。

太阳晒热了土地。

The sun baked the land.

 

 

wǒ men zài yáng guāng chōng zú de hǎi tān shàng shài tài yáng 。

我们在阳光充足的海滩上晒太阳。

We basked ourselves on the sunny beach.

 

 

 

 

2. (of the sun) shine upon

 

tài yáng bǎ rè zhào dào wù tǐ shàng

太阳把热照到物体上

 

e.g.

 

rì shài yǔ lín

日晒雨淋

be exposed to the sun and rain;

 

 

yáng guāng shài dé chuāng lián tuì le sè 。

阳光晒得窗帘褪了色。

The sun has faded the curtains.

 

 

 

Extend Meaning:

 

晒 [shài]: share something; ‘show it off to the world’, it’s possible to "晒" just about anything
