M: Jīn tiān wǒmen xué .. some more of the 12 dòngwù on the Chinese lunar calendar. And please, don’t forget to   chóngfù everything we say in Chinese.
S: Can you list those we’ve learnt already, in Chinese, and in the right order? Try it with ML. Start with ‘one rat’, then two something, then three, etc.
M: Here goes, 一只老鼠 yì zhī lǎoshǔ; 两头牛 liǎng tóu níu; 三只老虎 sān zhī lǎohǔ; 四只兔子 sì zhī tùzi; 五条龙 wǔ   tiáo lóng; and six snakes; 六条蛇 lìu tiáo shé.
S: Hěn hǎo. Hey, ML, look, on the floor there’s a snake. 嘿,曼丽,你看地板上有一条蛇 hei, ML, nǐ kàn, dìbǎn    shàng yǒu yì tiáo shé.
M: I don’t care. 我不在乎 wǒ bú zàihu. I’m not afraid of snakes. 我不怕蛇 wǒ bú pà shé.
S: And there’s a horse outside 外边还有一匹马 wàibiān háiyǒu yì pǐ mǎ.
M: 外边有一匹马?wàibiān yǒu yì pǐ mǎ? That’s great! I love horse riding. 那太好了!我喜欢骑马 nà tài hǎo le! Wǒ xǐhuān qí mǎ.
S: 我也喜欢骑马 wǒ yě xǐhuān qí mǎ.
M: Ok, before we qí mǎ, go horse riding, we’ll look at the new stuff.
S: I said, 嘿,曼丽,你看地板上有一条蛇
M: dìbǎn shàng yǒu yī tiáo shé. 地板 DI BAN dìbǎn, means ‘floor’ dìbǎn.
S: So everybody say, There are two snakes on the floor.
M: Hěn hǎo. 地板上有两条蛇 dìbǎn shàng yǒu liǎng tiáo shé.
S: But, she doesn’t care 但是,她不在乎 dàn shì, tā bú zàihu.
M: 对了, 我不在乎. I don’t care!
S: Bú zàihu. You can use it in exactly the same way as ‘I don’t care’, so it’s really useful. We’ll all say it together a few times, and put the right feeling into it. Wǒ bú zàihu, Wǒ bú zàihu, Wǒ bú zàihu.
M: Ok, enough, gòu le! 我为什么不在乎? 因为我不怕蛇. 怕 PA pà, ‘to fear’, ‘to be afraid of’, pà.
S: So everybody say, I’m afraid of him. … Hěn hǎo, 我怕他 wǒ pà tā.
M: And, I’m not afraid of snakes, 我不怕蛇 wǒ bú pà shé.
S: Snakes are cute. 蛇很可爱.
S: I also said, And there’s a horse outside. 外边还有一匹马
M: wàibiān hái yǒu yī pǐ mǎ. 外边 WAI BIAN wàibiān, is ‘outside’. Remember ‘inside’? Right. Lǐbian, or lǐmian. 
Outside is wàibian, or wàimian.
S: And did you hear the measure word for horse? Méi cuò. 匹 PI pǐ.
M: So, before we xià kè, say, on your own, Outside are twelve horses. Hěn hǎo. 外边有十二匹马 wàibian yǒu shí èr pǐ mǎ.
S: Now we’re going horse riding. Xiàn zài wǒmen qù qí mǎ. Zàijian.
