M: The past few lessons we’ve been learning how to tell the time, and days of the week.
S: So let’s fùxí now. First, remember how to say ‘in the early morning we eat breakfast’?
M: Duìle. 早晨我们吃早饭 zǎo chén wǒmen chī zǎofàn.
S: And ’10 o’clock in the morning’.
M: Méi cuò. 上午十点 shàngwǔ shí diǎn.
S: And, ‘at midday we eat lunch’.
M: Duìle. 中午我们吃午餐 zhōngwǔ wǒmen chī wǔcān.
S: ‘3:15 in the afternoon’.
M: Méi cuò. 下午三点一刻 xiàwǔ sān diǎn yī kè.
S: And, ‘in the evening, at 6:45, we eat dinner’.
M: Duìle! 晚上六点三刻我们吃晚饭 wǎnshàng liù diǎn sān kè women chī wǎnfàn.
S: Fēichàng hǎo. You’ve earned a break!
S: Now let’s quickly go over the days of the week. What day is it today? You guys at home answer ‘today is Monday’. …. Duìle. 今天是星期一 jīntiān shì xīngqī yī.
S: 所以 therefore, tomorrow is …
M: Duìle! 明天是星期二 míngtiān shì xīngqī èr.
S: Now, altogether with ML, Monday to Sunday. Get into the rythym!
M: xīngqī yī, xīngqī èr, xīngqī sān, xīngqī sì, xīngqī wǔ, xīngqī liù, and Sunday, xīngqī rì, xīngqī ri, or, xīngqī tiān, xīngqī tiān.
S: And remember the other two words for ‘week’? Right. 周 zhōu, and 礼拜 lǐbài.
M: So we can say, zhōu yī, zhōu èr, etc., up to Sunday, zhōu rì. Remember, we never say zhōu tiān, always zhōu rì, zhōu rì.
S: And how do we say ‘two weeks’?
M: Duìle! 两个星期, liǎng ge xīngqī.
S: Or, liǎng ge lǐbài, liǎng ge lǐbài.
M: And we sometimes say liǎng zhōu, or sān zhōu, or whatever. Usually we use lǐbài or xīngqī for a number of weeks.
S: We also learnt to ask ‘what day did you arrive?’
M: Stuart, 你哪天来的北京 nǐ nǎ tiān láide Běijīng?
S: 我星期四来的北京 wǒ xīngqī sì láide Běijīng.
M: What day did he come? Duìle, Thursday, xīngqī sì. Tā xīngqī sì láide Běijīng.
S: Now, you guys at home, answer ML’s question, and tell her you arrived in Guangzhou on Sunday.
M: 你哪天来的广州 nǐ nǎ tiān láide Guǎngzhōu?
S: And you replied, 我星期天来的广州 wǒ xīngqī tiān láide Guangzhou.
M: Or maybe you said, and repeat it with us, 我星期日来的广州 wǒ xīngqī rì láide Guangzhou.
S: Or, 我礼拜天来的广州 wǒ lǐbài tiān láide Guangzhou.
M: Or, 我礼拜日来的广州 wǒ lǐbài rì láide Guangzhou.
S: And last, 我周日来的广州 wǒ zhōu rì láide Guangzhou.
