小看 (xiǎokàn) look down upon

Usage:

 

“小看”是指看不起，不重视。一般说“小看某人或某物”，在口语中也说“小瞧”。

“小 看(xiǎokàn)” means to look down upon somebody or belittle something. It is usually followed by the person or the thing. “小瞧（xiǎoqiáo）”, which has the same meaning, is often used in spoken language.

1、Yìdàlì duì míngxiǎn shì yīnwèi tài xiǎokàn duìshǒu, cái shū le bǐsài de .
意大利队明显是因为太小看对手，才输了比赛的。

The Italian team underestimated their rival, which was apparently the reason for their failure.

 

2、Búyào xiǎokàn zhèběn báobáode xiàokān, xuéxiào suǒyǒu de lǎoshī hé xuéshēng dōu huì dú tā.
不要小看这本薄薄的校刊，学校所有的老师和学生都会读它。

Don’t undervalue this college journal though it is not thick. All staff and students will read it.
