Scenic Spots 风景名胜:

山海关是古代的军事要塞，有“天下第一关”之称。它与居庸关、嘉峪关并称中国三大雄关。巍巍城墙，凝聚着历史，凝结着智慧。老龙头是万里长城惟一一段海中长城，造型独特，雄伟壮观。澄海楼矗立于龙头之上，犹如点睛之作。这座昔日的军事要塞引来历代帝王、文人来此观海览胜，南望浩瀚大海碧波万里，尽赏龙头入海的恢弘气势。

Known as the first pass under heaven, shanghaiguan was of military importance in ancient times. It was regarded as one of china's three great impregnable passes, with the other two being juyongguan and jiayuguan. The great wall is an embodiment of history and wisdom. Laolongtou is the only section of the great wall that extends into the sea. It is unique in design and spectacular in grandeur. The chenghai tower on top the "dragon's head" is the hallmark of this section of the wall. This ancient defense bulwark attracted emperors and men of letters of various dynasties. They were amazed at the vast sea to its south and the magnificence of this old dragon's head.
