Cai Yuanpei 蔡元培

蔡元培（1868年1月11日－1940年3月5日），字鹤卿，汉族，浙江绍兴山阴县（今绍兴县）人，原籍浙江诸暨。革命家、教育家、政治家。中华民国首任教育总长，1916年至1927年任北京大学校长，革新北大，开“学术”与“自由”之风；1920年至1930年，蔡元培同时兼任中法大学校长。
Cai Yuanpei (January 11, 1868 - March 5, 1940), with courtesy name of Heqing, Han Nationality, was from Shanyin County (present-day Shaoxing County), Shaoxing, Zhejiang and his ancestral origin was in Zhuji, Zhejiang. Cai was a revolutionist, educationist, statesman and the first Minister of Education of the Republic of China. During his tenure as the president of Peking University from 1916 to 1927, Cai renovated Peking University with modern education elements and introduced “academic” education as well as “liberal” education. From 1920 to 1930, he also held the position of the president of the Université Franco-Chinoise.
主要成就： 建立中国资产阶级民主制度，革新北大，开“学术”与“自由”之风。
Major achievement(s): establishing the bourgeois democratic system in China, renovating Peking University and introducing “academic” education as well as “liberal” education.
代表作品： 《蔡元培自述》、《中国伦理学史》。
