XIA Junfeng, an itinerate street vendor found guilty in a sensational murder case involving urban management officials, was executed today, according to the Intermediate People’s Court at Shenyang, capital of northeast Liaoning Province.
Xia was selling shishkebab with his wife on street when urban management officials were patrolling on May 16, 2009. The couple was taken to the office of the Shenyang Urban Management and Law Enforcement Bureau for questioning.
Prosecutors said Xia began to argue with three officers at the office. Their clash turned violent. Xia stabbed them with his knife, killing Shen Kai and Zhang Xudong and severely injuring Zhang Wei. Xia was caught that afternoon.
Though Xia insisted he was just defending himself, the city’s intermediate court gave him the death penalty for intentional homicide in November 2009. The Liaoning Higher People’s Court upheld the verdict on May 9, 2011.
