Scenic Spots 风景名胜:

高高耸立的抗震纪念碑见证着唐山重建的历史。三十年前，一场大地震令百年老城毁于一旦，片片废墟令人触目惊心。翻过历史上这沉重的一页，人们看到的是一座震后崛起的美丽城市，唐山被誉为“中国近代工业的摇篮”，如今形成了以煤炭、钢铁机械陶瓷等为主的支柱产业，唐山这座希望之城正以崭新的姿态在冀东大地上崛起。

The towering Earthquake Monument bears witness to the history of Tangshan's reconstruction. A strong earthquake 30 years ago wiped out this 100-year-old city. The rubble remains shocking and frightening. Closing this heavy chapter, people are seeing today a brand-new beautiful city. Billed as the cradle of modern Chinese industry, Tangshan today has such mainstay industries as coal, steel, machinery and ceramics. Tangshan, a city of hope, is rising with a new momentum in eastern Hebei.

 

Language Points 语言点:

1. “相当”是一个副词，表示程度高，但它还达不到“很”的程度。

"Xiangdang" is an adverb, meaning "quite " or "fairly", but not "very".

Example:

Tángshān de chóng jiàn sù dù xiāng dāng kuài。

唐 山 的 重 建 速 度 相 当 快 。

Tangshan was rebuilt quite rapidly.

2. “好几...”就是表示数量多。后面可以跟个、十、百、千、万等数量单位。

"Haoji ..." means there is a lot of something. It can be followed by "ge", "shi", "bai", "qian", "wan" and other numerical units.

Example:

Tā pāi le hǎo jǐ wàn zhāng zhào piàn ne！

他 拍 了 好 几 万 张 照 片 呢！

He has taken tens of thousands of photographs.

New Words 生词:

废墟fèi xū

就是指城市、村庄遭受破话后，变得十分荒凉的地方。

"Feixu" refers to the sites of towns or villages after destruction.

Example:

yīn wéi dì zhèn zhè zuò chéng shì zhuǎn yǎn jiān jiù chéng le yí piàn fèi xū。

因为 地震， 这 座 城市 转 眼 间 就 成了 一片废墟。

Because of the earthquake, the town turned into a heap of debris in the wink of an eye.
