A visitor in Shantou should be

a gourmet too.

粗犷奔放的英歌舞

The rustic and exuberant

Yingge dance,

清扬悦耳的笛套音乐

the melodic Ditao music

精细至极的剪纸

and the exquisite paper-cutting

被誉为“潮阳民间艺术三宝”

are billed as three treasures

of Chaoyang folk arts.

值得一提的是

What's worth mentioning is that

我们在这里结识了一支特殊的英歌舞队

we got acquainted with a very special

Yingge dance troupe.

伴随着辅导老师无声的手语

Along with their instructor's

silent sign language,

二十几名聋哑学生紧跟鼓点

the two dozen or so deaf and

mute students

欢快地舞动着木槌

cheerfully danced with wooden

clubs to the drumbeat.

望着他们灿烂的笑脸

Seeing their beaming faces,

happy for them to grow in

such a healthy manner.

渊源 我说的就是这位 文天祥

Yuanyuan, the hero I mentioned

was this man, Wen Tianxiang.

那他跟这里有什么关系呢

How was he related to

this place?

你还记得我们在南澳岛

Do you remember that when

we were on Nan'ao Island,

提过的南宋皇帝兵败

we mentioned the fact that the Southern

Song imperial troops suffered a defeat and

一路南逃的事儿吗

the emperor fled all the way

down to the south?

嗯

Yes.

当时的丞相文天祥

Wen Tianxiang, the prime minister then,

非常想拯救南宋王朝

was eager to save the Southern

Song Dynasty.

于是就从家乡江西率兵来到潮阳

So he led an army from his home

province, Jiangxi, to Chaoyang,

希望能与皇帝会合

hoping to join up with

the emperor here.

可是最终还是没有等到

But to his dismay,

令他非常的痛心

he failed to see his arrival.

真是一位忠贞的爱国将领啊

What a loyal and patriotic general!

韩佳 我发现这尊雕像那儿

Han Jia, I find this statue

有两块深色的石头

was built of two dark rocks.

现在看起来就像衣服上的补丁一样

They look like patches on clothes.

是啊

这不免又让人想到七百多年前

这位民族英雄不远千里辗转来到这里

more than 700 years ago when

he came all the way

一路历经了艰辛

down here.

虽然这一路上困难重重

但是文天祥始终认为

he had the responsibility

of saving the country.

He never flinched from saving

汉武帝很赏识他

Emperor Han Wudi thinks

official by his side.

当时朝廷正在巴蜀地区

At the time, the imperial

court is building

修建通往夜郎的西南夷道

a road to Yelang in the

Sichuan area.

有一天早晨上朝

One morning when the court

一位大臣前来进谏

a minister comes in to report.

陛下

由于修建西南夷道的工程浩大

as the Southwest Road is

a huge project,

征用了巴蜀地区较多的劳力

we expropriated a lot of

manpower in Sichuan.
