Wearing Dogwood Sprig and Chrysanthemum 佩茱萸•簪菊花

重阳节有佩茱萸的风俗，因此又被称为“茱萸节”。茱萸是重阳节的重要标志。重阳节时人们还喜欢佩戴菊花。茱萸雅号“辟邪翁”，菊花又名“延寿客”。
Wearing a dogwood sprig is a custom of the Double Ninth Festival, therefore, it is also known as the “Dogwood Sprig Festival”. The dogwood sprig is an important symbol of the Double Ninth Festival. On that day, people also like wearing chrysanthemums. The dogwood sprig has the gracious name of “force to exorcise evil spirits” and the chrysanthemum is known as the “force to prolong life”.
茱萸是一种可以做中药的果实，有温中、止痛、理气等功效。茱萸叶还可治霍乱，根可以杀虫。古人认为佩带茱萸，可以避难消灾。

The ancient people thought wearing the dogwood sprig can help in avoiding accidents and removing ill fortune.
但是在宋元之后，佩茱萸的习俗逐渐稀见了。重阳在早期百姓生活中强调的是避邪消灾，随着人们生活状态的改善，人们不仅关注目前的现实生活，而且对未来生活给予了更多的期盼，祈求长生与延寿。所以“延寿客”（菊花）的地位最终盖过了“避邪翁”（茱萸）。

In the past, the Double Ninth Festival emphasized exorcising evil spirits and removing ill fortune in people’s life. With the improvement of people’s life, what people pay attention to wais not merely their current life. They have had more expectations for their future life and prayed for longevity and prolonged life. Therefore, the “force to prolong life” (chrysanthemum) had surpassed the “force to exorcise evil spirits” (dogwood sprig) in its status.
