司马相如(约公元前179年-约公元前118年)字长卿,汉族,蜀郡(今四川省成都人)。西汉大辞赋家。其代表作品为《子虚赋》。作品词藻富丽,结构宏大,使他成为汉赋的代表作家,后人称之为赋圣。他与卓文君的私奔故事也广为流传。鲁迅的《汉文学史纲要》中还把二人放在一个专节里加以评述,指出:"武帝时文人,赋莫若司马相如,文莫若司马迁"。
Sima Xiangru (around 179 BC to 118 BC), Han nationality, was born in the State of Shu (now part of Chengdu, Sichuan province). His courtesy name is Changqing. He was a great poet of the Western Han Dynasty, represented by Zixu Fu (Master Nil). His work is of fabulous words and a big structure, which made him into a representative writer of Han Fu (a literary genre), later known as the Saint Fu. The story of he and the widow Zhuo Wenjun's elopement is popular. Lu Xun refers to him and her in a special chapter of Outline of the Chinese History of Literature. "Speaking of literati during the reign of Emperor Wu of Han, no one is a better poet than Sima Xiangru and no one is a better writer than Sima Qian."
