Xu Xiake 徐霞客

徐霞客（1587年1月5日-1641年3月8日），名弘祖，字振之，号霞客，汉族，明南直隶江阴（今江苏江阴市）人。伟大的地理学家geographer 和旅行家traveler和探险家explorer，留下了描述衡州山川形胜、风土人情的15000余字的衡游日记。他对石鼓山和石鼓书院的详尽记述，为后人修复石鼓书院提供了一笔珍贵的史料。
Xu Xiake (Jan. 5th, 1587-Mar. 8th, 1641), named Hongzu, with the courtesy name of Zhenzhi, and the pseudonym of Xiake, was of the Han nationality, and a native of Jiangyin, South Zhili in the Ming Dynasty (modern Jiangyin city, Jiangsu province). He was a great geographer, traveler and explorer. He kept over 15-thousand-character traveling log depicting the landscapes and customs of the various areas he visited in Hengzhou. His detailed record of Shigu Mountain and Shigu Academy served as valuable historical references for later generations in repairing the Shigu Academy.
