Li Jinsheng shows his exam admission card, June 6, 2014.
Li Jinsheng, who is 46 years old and blind, received his admission card for China's annual national college entrance exam several days ago. It is the first time for the country to offer a Braille paper for blind examinees, newpaper.dahe.cn reports.
Three blind candidates will participate in the college entrance exam which is due to be held on June 7 and 8. Aside from Li Jinsheng of Henan province, the other two examinees hail from Shanghai and Gansu.
Li, who graduated from high school in 1988, never gave up his "college dream". From last year, the massage shop owner continuously applied for the chance to sit the national college entrance exam to related departments, finally receiving admission card this week.
The Ministry of Education raised the idea of allowing blind people to sit the college entrance exam this March and sent specially trained staff to ask Li for his suggestions concerning the details of taking the exam.
As a result, three blind examinees will sit the national exam at three different locations, in their respective home provinces. The Braille papers were specially transported by staff to the exam locations.
The exam content of the Braille paper does not differ from that of the regular paper but examinees will have a longer period of time in which to complete the exam.
