Game Fair ChinaJoy Opens, Showcasing Xbox One and More

China's largest annual digital entertainment fair opened to the public on Thursday (July 31, 2014) in Shanghai, gathering hundreds of games under one roof.

Over 700 game products will be displayed during the 12th China Digital Entertainment Expo and Conference, better known as ChinaJoy, according to organizers. Participants include 500 or so companies from over 30 countries and regions.

Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4 are headlining the consoles in display. Earlier reports suggest that Xbox One will debut in the Chinese mainland market on September 23.

Mobile gaming is another highlight. As smartphone-based games are gaining popularity, a large portion of this year's booth space is occupied by mobile gaming platform providers and distributors. Featured companies include the country's top mobile gaming developers, China Mobile Games and CocoaChina, as well as traditional game developer Giant Interactive, which is launching its own mobile game products.

The 4-day ChinaJoy runs until August 3 at Shanghai's New International Expo Center.

Often comparing itself to the Los Angeles-based E3 and the Tokyo Game Show, ChinaJoy is one of the largest game fairs in Asia. Last year, it attracted more than 200,000 visitors.
