Cai Wenji, also known as Cai Yan, native of Yu county, Chenliu commandery (now Qi county, Kaifeng city, Henan province), was a well-known female poet and writer in the late Eastern Han Period. She was the daughter of Cai Yong, a great writer of the Eastern Han. Her representative works are the Eighteen Songs of a Nomad Flute and the Poem of Sorrow and Anger.
