Chinese agricultural scientist Yuan Longping said Wednesday that a new rice harvest record set by an Indian farmer was "120 percent fake," Hunan Satellite TV reports.
Sumant Kumar was reported to have harvested 22.4 tonnes of rice on one hectare of land in Nalanda district of India's poorest state Bihar, which beat the 19.4 tonnes achieved by Yuan.
Yuan, also called the "father of rice," said Kumar was boasting and that he considered him to be fake.
Yuan said he discovered some loopholes in the Indian's claim in terms of research and cultivation methods.
