Sima Qian 司马迁

司马迁（公元前145年或135年-公元前87），字子长，西汉夏阳（今陕西韩城，一说山西河津）人，中国古代伟大的史学家、思想家、文学家，被后人尊称为"史圣"。他最大的贡献是创作了中国第一部纪传体通史《史记》（原名《太史公书》）。该书记载了上自中国上古传说中的黄帝时代，下至公元前101年（汉武帝太初四年），共3000多年的历史，被认为是中国史书的典范。
Sima Qian (145 or 135 BC - 87 BC), courtesy named Zichang, was a great historian, thinker and writer of ancient China. He was a native of Xiayang in the Western Han Dynasty (Now Hancheng, Shaanxi province or Hejin, Shanxi province). He is regarded as the father of Chinese historiography for his greatest contribution, Records of the Grand Historian (originally named Taishi Gongshu), a Jizhuanti - style general history of China, covering more than three thousand years from the Yellow Emperor to the Emperor Wu of Han (101BC, i.e, the fourth year of Emperor Wu period). The masterpiece is regarded as the model of Chinese history books.
