Ban Gu 班固

班固（公元32年-92年）东汉官吏、史学家、文学家。史学家班彪之子，字孟坚，汉族，扶风安陵人（今陕西咸阳东北）。潜心二十余年，修成《汉书》，当世重之，迁玄武司马，撰《白虎通德论》，征匈奴为中护军，兵败受牵连，死狱中，善辞赋，有《两都赋》等。
Ban Gu (32 - 92), Han nationality and born to the historian Ban Biao in Anling, Fufeng (now northeastern part of Xianyang, Shaanxi province), is said to be an official, historian and writer of the Eastern Han Dynasty. His courtesy name is Mengjian. He wrote The Book of Han during 20 years of effort. He was promoted to Xuanwu Sima, and then compiled Baihutong Delun. He was later enlisted as Zhonghujun (Military Chiefs) to Xiongnu (Hun). His association with military defeat led to his imprisonment and death. He had a way with Fu and produced many, including Liangdu Fu.
