808 Chinese Characters Remove Communication Barriers

《中日韩共同常用八百汉字表》周二在扬州举行的第九届东北亚名人会上获得中日韩三国代表一致赞成通过。
A chart of 808 commonly used Chinese characters in China, Japan and South Korea were released on Tuesday at the ongoing ninth session of the Northeast Asia Trilateral Forum to promote communication among the three countries in Hangzhou.
“如今只要认识这808个共同常用汉字，中日韩三国的人们也能够通过文字无障碍交流。”汉字表发起者、中国人民大学前校长纪宝成接受新华社记者专访时说。
"As long as they know those 808 Chinese characters, people from the three countries can communicate without barriers," said Ji Baocheng, former president of Renmin University of China and initiator of the project.
汉字承载着中日韩三国的历史文化遗产，是三国文化交流的重要纽带，记校长说。
Chinese characters are the common historical and cultural heritage of China, Japan and South Korea and are an important link in promoting cultural communication among the three countries, said Ji.
