《爸爸去哪儿》 “wher Are We Going, Dad?” is the theme song of the celebrity parenting reality TV show of the same name that is currently extremely popular in China. The show is the Chinese version of South Korea Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation‘s 아빠! 어디가? “Dad! wher Are We Going?”

 

Produced by Hunan Satellite TV, “wher Are We Going, Dad?” invites five male celebrities from different fields and their children to spend quality time together in new environments while accomplishing various survival tasks. The guests are:

 

    Taiwanese singer, actor and professional race car driver 林志颖 Jimmy Lin aka Lin Zhiying and his son Kimi;
    mainland former diver, Olympics champion 田亮 Tian Liang and his daughter 田雨橙 Tian Yucheng aka Cindy;
    mainland actor 郭涛 Guo Tao and his son 郭子睿 Guo Zirui (nickname: Little Stone);
    mainland director 王岳伦 Wang Yuelun and his daughter 王诗龄 Wang Shiling aka Angela, and
    mainland model 张亮 Zhang Liang and his son 张轩宇 Zhang Xuanyu (Nickname: 天天 Tiantian).

“wher Are We Going, Dad” has aired every Friday night at 10pm on Hunan Satellite TV since October 11th, competing with two other parenting reality TV shows by Qinghai Satellite TV and Shanxi Satellite TV, respectively. According to Baidu Baike, the first four episodes of “wher Are We Going, Dad” all topped the charts and have been welcomed by increasing nationwide ratings: 1.1, 1.67, 1.8, and 2.16. Re-runs are even more popular, resulting in Hunan Satellite TV unprecedentedly deciding to play every episode eight times a week.

 

In every episode, the celebrity fathers and their children spend quality time together and complete various tasks without the company of the mothers. The first two episodes recorded a three-day trip to a village on the outskirts of Beijing, while the third and forth episodes sent the guests to the desert. The children are between 3 and 6 years old, all of whom rose to fame as soon as the first episode came out. This reality show has generated heated discussions about parenting, fatherhood, childhood, as well as the stars’ careers and wives.

 

At time of translation, this song has received 14,003,728 listens on QQ Music. The #wher Are We Going, Dad# hashtag has generated 12,523,187 discussions on China’s popular Sina Weibo microblog social network.
